Dubbed ‘Packet 25’, the upgrade bundle introduces a raft of enhancements including increased engine power, sharper throttle response, updated gravel shock absorbers, and strengthened protection for key components. Many of the upgrades can be retrofitted to existing cars, giving Škoda’s global customer teams - active in WRC2 and beyond - access to the improvements without needing a brand-new chassis.
“Work on a successful rally car never stops,” said Škoda Motorsport boss Michal Hrabánek. “The new enhancements have undergone rigorous testing, demonstrated their benefits, and received FIA homologation for customer use.”
At the heart of the update lies a more potent 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. Engineers have refined the unit’s gas exchange, combustion efficiency and software calibration to extract greater performance. A redesigned exhaust manifold has reduced the energy required for cylinder flushing by 27%, while a revised exhaust system is both lighter and tuned to deliver a more aggressive engine note.

Handling and reliability have also been addressed. The car now benefits from tougher, yet weight-neutral, gravel dampers and improved protection for critical drivetrain and suspension elements such as brake calipers, cooling ducts, and driveshaft boots. Newly-developed uniball seals further enhance durability and help bring down operating costs over time.

Inside the cockpit, a redesigned roof scoop improves airflow without compromising waterproofing, while new racing seats - 2kg lighter than the previous versions - contribute to a lower centre of gravity.
Estonian WRC2 ace Robert Virves, who was among 12 drivers to cover more than 4,000km of testing, offered strong praise for the updated machine.

“I can see significant progress in engine response. It’s even sharper and has incredible power in higher gears,” said Virves. “The engine sound with the new exhaust is beautiful and aggressive.”
Several elements of Packet 25 will be fitted as standard on newly-built Fabia RS Rally2 cars, with the remainder offered as optional extras. The full package will also be made available to existing customers, adding further appeal to a car of which more than 150 units have been sold since its 2022 debut.
