Elena takes
the wheel

This is something you don't see very often: Daniel Elena behind the wheel of a rally car.

Elena, the nine-time FIA World Rally Championship-winning co-driver, is pictured in action on Rallye du Var in France last weekend where he was responsible for driving the course-opening ‘0’ car.

Rather than pilot his driver Sebastien Loeb’s all-conquering Citroen DS3 WRC, Elena was let loose in a slightly lower-specification DS3 R1 during the three-day Tarmac event, the final round of the French championship.

Fellow Monegasque Olivier Campana co-drove Elena during the rally, which was being led by Robert Kubica until the Formula One race winner crashed on the penultimate stage.
